It is extremely difficult to talk about politics in this day and age, all of the information that comes on the news everyday has become a weight too many Americans can no longer bear. So what happens? They ignore the news and claim. "its too sad" or, "I don't understand", and my personal favorite, "the media is biased". So in this day of top of the line communication, millions of Americans are tuning out what they don't want to hear and turning up the volume for what they want to see. This selective information process has led to the political divide in America growing at an exponential rate, each side being fed exactly what they want to hear and being told the other side is full of liars and idiots. So what is the solution to this political trench warfare? ME! Allow me to introduce myself, I am a 17 year old High-School student and I have big plans. Me and my fellow teens will eventually be the ones in charge so I figured why not get a bit of a head start. Here is my four step plan on fixing the nation with more than just encouraging words.
STEP ONE Political Literacy; In this day and age, people have been politically dumbed down to the point where their brains can no longer register information or evidence brought to them by the other side. I want to help people become more literate on our political system and what each side believes in. I don't want Fox News or CNN telling the next wave of voters who to vote for, I want them to make that decision themselves and understanding policy and our system is the first step to creating more independent voters. STEP TWO Create the Nonpartisan News Network: A news station that has no agenda and simply brings forth the facts to the public. This will help bridge the gap by bringing viewers from liberal and conservative networks to both agree on the facts brought to them by the NNN. STEP THREE Influence Bipartisan Policy: Through pressure from constituents, make bipartisan action a talking-point for every candidate who is running for congress. If you can't play nice with others then you can't play. STEP FOUR Destroy Corporate Lobbyists: We must return to a government "for the people, by the people" or else major corporations and industries will continue taking advantage of our divided nation for their own personal gain. After corporate lobbying is banned, congressmen and woman can focus on their constituents and hopefully realize that most of them just want the government to not screw them over. The last time our nation was this divided, the great President Abraham Lincoln gave a speech encouraging unity. In the speech he famously said, "A house divided against itself cannot stand". We can barely stand anymore, let's fix this before it gets worse. -Icarus Ash

Imagine a place where people walk around like zombies, performing mind-numbing tasks and pass out left and right. No, this is not a post-apocalyptic world its a High School. Whats the cause of this you might ask? Its not the students, its the system. The education system makes kids wake up as early as six in the morning so they can make it to class, they then spend the next seven to eight hours having their minds crammed with information and are expected to then go home and use that information to prove your intelligence with homework. And if you find yourself confused of a topic then its your fault and not the ones teaching it. If the whole class scores bad on a test it is the students fault for not listening and not the teachers, whose job it is to make sure you score well. On top of all of the work, many students take extracurriculars after school to get a sliver of enjoyment out of the day. But you see, school is not over because you must go home and work on more school work, learning more and cramming your brain even more. By the time you are done it is late and you must sleep, you have to wake up in six hours to do school all over again. The healthy amount of sleep for a teenager is seven to nine hours. STOP BLAMING THE KIDS, THE SYSTEM IS OLD AND BROKEN IT IS TIME TO CHANGE IT.
